
It alternates like this with every new character joining. With 3 people the loot chances increase but difficulty of monsters is still calculated as if there were only 2 people in the game. With two people in the game, the xp is increased but loot chances stay the same. What this means is that if you are playing alone, there are no bonuses to either drops nor xp. With 2, 4, 6 and 8 players, monster health and damage increases. With 3, 5 or 7 players in the game, loot drop chances increase. Players 8 is a blanket term often used in regards to higher loot drop rates when there are multiple people in the game, but in reality there's two different systems at work.
